November is always an exciting month at Everest Gymnastics. Not only are students gearing up for the holidays, but also gathering in celebration of school athletes receiving college scholarships. 2018’s college signing event honored Julianna Weil and Lily Harsch and served as an opportunity for these students’ coaches and their peers to wish them well as they begin a new journey.
Q: What requirements must a student meet to qualify for a scholarship?
Everest Gymnastics: Requirements vary from university to university. However, both Julianna and Lily have demonstrated academic excellence and extreme athletic talent. These two gymnasts make our facility proud, and we know they will do the same as they leave for college this fall.
Q: Which universities have the girls chosen to attend?
Everest Gymnastics: Julianna leaves us to attend the University of Maryland. She is currently a student at Laurel Springs High School, where she has managed to maintain a 4.0 GPA on top of her rigorous gymnastics training schedule. Notably, Julianna is involved with the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth and is also a Duke TIP Scholar. Lily is a senior at William A. Hough High School and will be attending Bowling Green State University.
Q: What are some of their notable achievements?
Everest Gymnastics: Both girls are outstanding athletes and have reached numerous goals during their young lives. In 2017, Lily made it to the Junior Olympic National, where she finished fourth on the uneven bars. Julianna also competed in the Junior Olympic National in 2018 with an impressive 37.475 score in the all-around.
Q: What advice do the coaches have for these two ladies?
Everest Gymnastics: I think we can all agree that the best advice would be for them to follow their dreams and work hard, but remember to make time for the things in life that matter, such as family, friends, and rest.
